The medieval legend of Tristan and Isolde is recounted by Wagner through his sweeping musical language, novel harmonies and enchanting orchestral accents. This work makes great demands of its two leads, to be played by Christian Franz, who has always delivered fine performances in Budapest, and Evelyn Herlitzius, who has made a considerable international name for herself performing as Venus (Tannhäuser), Sieglind (Die Walküre), Brünnhilde (Der Ring des Nibelungen), and Kundry (Parsifal). Judit N...émeth ranks among the finest Wagnerian singers around and her performance as Brangäne was celebrated at length in this very hall in 2010. Jan-Hendrik Rootering and Tomasz Konieczny too are no strangers to Budapest audiences. Of course, the same can also be said of the Hungarian performers and orchestra, provided by the Hungarian State Opera.
