Among the most important pianists around today, Mitsuko Uchida is an outstanding performer of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert, both in concert halls and on record. He is also equally versed in introducing the work of Berg, Schönberg, Webern and Boulez to a new generation of music lovers. His recording of Schönberg's Piano Concerto with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pierre Boulez, won four awards, including the Gramophone award in the Best Concerto category. Picks from Uchida's packed schedule for the 2010/2011 season include concerts with Sir Colin Davis and the Dresden Staatskapelle and Ricardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He will also embark on a tour of Japan with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and a European Tour with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons, and performing the first cycle of the Beethoven piano concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis. Uchida has played with just about every renowned orchestra and musician in the world's top concert halls. The naturalised British pianist has also headed the bill in concert series at both Carnegie Hall and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and is a permanent guest performer at the Vienna Konzerthaus. He has also held a series of concerts of Beethoven's piano concertos with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle and is joint director of the Marlboro Festival with Richard Goode.
