American pianist Andrew Tyson made his name in Europe by winning the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich in 2015. This victory yielded numerous European invitations for the pianist, who was already popular in North America, including appearances at Zurich's Tonhalle, the Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, as well as in Stuttgart, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Zagreb.
Born in 1986, Tyson graduated from New York's Juilliard School in 2014. He won many recognitions over the course of his studies, winning the Young Concert Artists Competition in 2011 and the John Browning Memorial Prize in 2013, also receiving an award at the Leeds International Piano Competition that same year. In 2014, he recorded all 24 of Chopin's preludes, followed by a selection of works by Ravel and Scriabin the following year. In addition to his career as a soloist, he is also highly devoted to playing chamber music. Critics consider him to be one of those philosophical-minded young pianists who are always in search of the composer's original message, which they then wish to relay to the audience. His enormous dynamic range and his refined sense of proportion both serve this aim.
