He was accepted to the organ faculty of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in 2006. He is also enrolled simultaneously on the song-music, conducting and solfège teaching course at the ELTE University faculty of music. Mekis won first prize in the 2005 National Organ Competition for Music School Students in Budapest and reached the semi-finals of the International Buxtehude Organ Competition in Lübeck in autumn 2009. He regularly accompanies and plays continuo organ for the Lutherania Choir and Orchestra led by Salamon Kamp. From 2005 to 2009, he held the position of organist and cantor at the Kelenföld Evangelical Church, before taking on the role of deputy cantor at the Deák Tér Evangelical Church from November 2009. Every summer, Mekis teaches the organ at the Evangelical Cantor Training Institute in Fót, and he has been leading a church chamber choir since 2005.
