Felix Mendelssohn grew up in welfare, in an enlightened and humanist spirit and a warm family atmosphere, where the versatile and easy-going unfolding of talent was most natural. From his childhood, he adored baroque music and it was thus by no chance that the renaissance of Bach works was related to his name. He was able to compose works of astonishingly early maturity in all genres and forms. In the century of Romanticism, his music was made unique by its ratios, the filtered clarity of the to...ne, the superiorly controlled flow of passion and the good taste and temperance reflected in all respects: his oeuvre is a unique merger of romantic and classic demand. While Beethoven still followed in the footsteps of Haydn and Mozart in his piano concerto, he produced a freer and more romantic tone in some parts, treating the solo more boldly, too. His tone is fresh and confident; the structure of his music clear and well-balanced. The themes of the third movement reflect almost folk humour: they are playful and lively. The vivacious motifs move briskly along boldly roaming modulations. The composition of Bartók, Music for String Instruments, Percussion and Celesta is an outstanding work regarding the whole twentieth century. After his Microcosmos, it is now the macrocosmos, the Universe, unfolding wide in the Music. The only real solution of the dilemma is: the higher unity of humans and nature can only be implemented in the practice of coexistence. „…to arrange our common affairs, this is our task, and is not an easy one” – as the poet Attila József Attila put it, in the very same years.
