Les Préludes – organ version for four hands

Although the sound of the organ can take listeners out of the moment, creating the illusion of timelessness, time itself plays an important role in this concert. Not only because the performance of the final piece on the programme will start on one day and end on the next, but it also offers the audience the chance to welcome three generations of Hungarian organists on the stage. Now in his 85th year, Zsigmond Szathmáry is a living legend: celebrated as a teacher from the Netherlands to Japan, his daring compositions – one of which will be performed at this concert – are distinguished by their indefatigable creativity and experimentation. As Müpa Budapest’s resident organist, László Fassang is constantly looking for new opportunities to bring the magical power of the instrument to the widest possible audience, while Ádám Tabajdi is an outstanding member of the young generation of organists. This meeting of the three promises to be a journey across ages and genres.
