The title role will be sung by René Pape for the very first time: he became a huge favourite at the MET with his performances of Marke in Tristan, Mephistopheles in Faust, Gurnemanz in Parsifal and King Philip in Don Carlos. He will be supported by Ekaterina Semenschuk, Aleksandrs Antonenko, Oleg Balashkov, Yevgeni Nikitin and Mihail Petrenko. Valery Geriev conducts Mussorgsky’s original orchestral score. The production is the gift of Karen and Kevin Kennedy, and Mr and Mrs Wilmer J.
