Jonas Kaufmann, the versatile German tenor and a long-time favourite of Budapest audiences, follows the resounding success of his Mein Wien (My Vienna) album with a new record that turns the spotlight on Hungary. The planned title, Magische Töne: Berühmte Melodien aus Österreich-Ungarn (Magical Sounds: Famous Melodies from Austria-Hungary), hints that the artist will select from popular works by the most internationally renowned Hungarian composers, such as Károly Goldmark, Ferenc Lehár, and Imre Kálmán. The performance will see Kaufmann accompanied by the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jochen Rieder. The evening’s special guest, the Swedish lyric soprano Malin Byström, will make her Müpa debut on this evening, though audiences may have already seen her as Donna Elvira in the Metropolitan Opera’s 2016 broadcast of Don Giovanni.
