Giacomo Puccini was the object of female attention throughout his life. His biographers are particularly fond of discussing the messy affairs the handsome and popular composer found himself entangled in and his reputation as a womaniser. He was passionate about beauty, the highest embodiment of which for him was ‘la donna’. All of his operas centre around women, whom he portrays by means of infinite sophistication. This production by the Budafok Dohnanyi Orchestra seeks to show the composer’s admiration for the female figures that he himself created and his constant yearning to unravel their secrets. The production follows the story of a single mystical night that starts with the appearance of a mysterious, unknown woman, who then embarks together with Puccini on a strange wandering path through the labyrinths of the female soul – inside the hearts of Mimì, Musetta, Tosca, Butterfly and Liù, as well as across Turandot’s own deadly universe of love.
