József Katona: Bánk bán
A performance by Szigligeti Theatre of Szolnok
23 March 2010, Tuesday
6 pm - 8:50 pm
Festival Theatre
Budapest Spring Festival

Director: Imre Kerényi Szigligeti Theatre of Szolnok premiered the drama Bánk bán by József Katona on October 16, 2009. The performance, using the original music of Ferenc Erkel, presented in an eclectic style with beautiful scenes, addresses the man of our age raising the ever-relevant questions of the piece once again. The Szolnok production of Bánk bán evokes the sentiments of Hungary’s Reform Age of 1825-1848. The functionalist stage design of László Székely indicates the changes of setting by large gestures; the walls are decorated with well-known motifs of Hungarian historical painting. The costumes designed by Mária Jánoskúti imitate the painted figures of National Romanticism.
