This year’s Bridging Europe concert embraces the entire continent, with a Spanish dance followed by a Hungarian rhapsody and then a tribute to Bach, before closing with some Czech music. Joining the BFO to perform Liszt’s work on the quintessential instrument of urban Gypsy music, as he did to wow the BBC Proms audience, will be Jenő Lisztes. In Iván Fischer’s dance suite, the bridges also span distances to points abroad. In the hands of the Ukrainian violinist Diana Tishchenko, her Stradivari sounds “breathtaking”, producing a “unique tone”. This joint concert with the European Union Youth Orchestra is a brand-new collaborative project of the two ensembles and the opening event of the European Orchestra Academy.
