Haydn

The Creation

For years it has been a tradition at Müpa Budapest to begin the New Year with a Haydn oratorio. In 2016, Ádám Fischer, conductor of the first New Years Concert and one of the most committed performers of Haydns music on the international scene, once again takes the podium in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. The Kossuth Prize-winning conductor leads the orchestra he himself founded in 1987 and directed for more than 20 years, dedicating its efforts to Haydns oeuvre. It was with this orchestra that he recorded the complete symphonies of the Viennese composer, before handing over the baton from the start of the 2015/16 season to an outstanding representative of the younger generation.
The essence of this oratorio is that the chorus plays the main role on this occasion the 92-strong chorus of the Vienna State Opera, regular collaborators over recent decades with conducting giants such as Herbert von Karajan, Karl Böhm, Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Seiji Ozawa and Franz Welser-Möst. Soprano soloist Mária Celeng made her debut at the Hungarian State Opera House only at the beginning of 2013, but has already performed at the Salzburg Festival and at Milans La Scala, while finishing in the top five at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition. Florian Boesch is one of the busiest oratorio singers on the scene, a frequent participant in productions of Nikolaus Harnoncourt and René Jacobs.
