Director Róbert Alföldi

Love and Intrigue is one of the most popular stage works of German literature, one that really aims for the heart. The love story between Ferdinand and Luise approaches and quotes Romeo and Juliet. Even today, their passion and feelings enrapture the audience. Intrigue, jealousy, plotting, poverty, machinations, pure ideals, tragic misunderstandings, a fateful death... The authenticity of this depiction of reality and its convincing nature is boosted because all that happens in the drama is based on Schiller’s personal experience. He also experienced a secret love, and his embittered student years in the ducal boarding school and in military service gave him the opportunity to meet the characteristic figures of the royal court. This performance is unique because the full orchestra performing on stage creates the play’s sets, space and environment. (The performance can be seen on the main stage of the National Theatre from January 2010.) Further performances: Festival Theatre, 19.00 December 7
