So very French, as we like to say. But what exactly makes something French? What are those filters, those distinctive traits that, regardless of era or genre, make us see the world through French eyes? This concert will reveal all! In Darius Milhaud’s music, jazz and irony play a key role. Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto, by contrast, captivates precisely through its romantic, profound and passionate emotions. Françaix views the tradition of exoticism and its relaxed sophistication through the lens of modernity, while Ravel was inspired by fin de siècle influences and impressionism. However different they may seem, all of them composed undeniably “French” music without ever setting out to.
