FOR THOSE THAT CAN STAND THE PACE…
NEW YEAR'S CONCERT WITH THE AMADINDA PERCUSSION GROUP AND GÁBOR PRESSER
31 December 2013, Tuesday
9:45 pm - 1 am
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Starguest Mariann Falusi

interval

The music of Amadinda and Gábor Presser will once again see in the new year at the concert hall of the Palace of Arts. The former Lokomotiv GT frontman's Zenevonat (music train) will joyfully pass through valleys and over mountains, taking in the changing landscape of music history. Stops will be made at classical compositions, exotic rhythms, George Gershwin, some timeless Leonard Bernstein works and Gábor Presser's essential numbers. One of the major attractions of this now traditional New Year's Eve concert is that it largely features productions that have never been heard before, among them some that will be probably be performed on this night only. The popularity of these concerts with the audience has lasted a decade and a half, a sell-out is guaranteed and many members of the audience secure their tickets many months in advance. The first half is traditionally constructed around Amadinda’s repertoire, but the star guest for the evening, Mariann Falusi, will already be making an appearance here. In the minutes before midnight, we hear the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, before the final seconds of the old year are seen off with Amadinda’s gong strikes. While the first half of the concert must be precisely planned – the performers cannot risk missing the strike of midnight – the second half is all the more free, with its duration determined in part by the stamina of the audience. This is the time for genuine once-in-a-lifetime moments. The New Year traditionally begins with a Strauss polka, before Gábor Presser, the other host for the evening, arrives on stage. The night train will reach its final destination with the most popular songs from West Side Story, evergreen Presser songs and LGT numbers specially arranged for this concert.
