Ballet Company of Győr (ballet director: László Velekei)
Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra (artistic director: István Várdai, concertmaster: Péter Tfirst)
  • Vivaldi-Max Richter: The Four Seasons
  •
  • Beethoven: String Quartet No. 16 in F major, Op. 135 (transcribed for string orchestra)
  • Kraft: Cello Concerto No.1 in C major, Op. 4

The programme for this celebratory concert by the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra showcases all of the virtues and skills that make us feel that they are experiencing a new heyday. The orchestra's highly successful concerts are now remembered by several generations of classical music lovers. During the 60 years of its existence, the orchestra's history has been intertwined with the greatest figures in both the Hungarian and international musical worlds, and its polished, unique soundscape make it part of the first rank of chamber orchestras.

The evening will start with an exciting bang, a sensational piece that has had jaws dropping - if one may use that expression - all over the world. This is Max Richter's reinterpretation of one of the most well-known pieces from music history, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, using the musical tools of the 21st century, thereby offering a new and intriguing reading of this Baroque work. The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra have invited the dancers of the Ballet Company of Győr to help with the production, a...nd in their joint performance, the sound, complemented by the visual and movement worlds, will exert an even more elementary effect. After the interval, the ensemble will courageously take the stage ‘alone' to tackle one of the most difficult technical challenges in music: the string orchestra version of a late Beethoven quartet, one demanding outstanding artistic quality. As a finale, the orchestra will salute its audience - both those members whose loyalty goes back decades and the new generation of music lovers - with the world of Viennese Classical music. Their world-renowned artistic director, István Várdai, will not be left out of the celebration either: it would be difficult for the ensemble, whom we wish much success in their seventh decade, to imagine a more suitable partner to provide an intense and evocative performance befitting the Kraft cello concerto.

Presented by: Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
