Beethoven
Symphony No. 9 in D minor, op. 125
The 19th century composer Carl Reinecke only really began to compose in earnest on retirement from the numerous important functions he filled in public life; the Flute Concerto in D major was conceived in the Romantic spirit in 1908, two years before his death. Today, the work is an important piece in the standard flute repertoire, and will be played here by Éva Szabados, a representative of the young generation of musicians who studies in Munich. The remainder of the evening will be devoted to the Symphony No. 9 Ludwig van Beethoven composed when deaf, an epochal masterpiece of music history to be enjoyed here in the interpretation of a superb orchestra from Pécs, exceptional vocal soloists and a wonderful choir. Conductor Tibor Bogányi, who has pursued a successful career in Finland and is also active as a cellist, has led the Pannon Philharmonic since August 2011. Known also for its innovative concerts, the orchestra is the sole ensemble based outside the capital to have its own advertised season ticket series at Müpa Budapest for more than a decade.
