In 2018, Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok is celebrating a quarter-century as a professional orchestra. Initially formed from around a dozen and a half college students and young musicians, it has since grown into one of the country's key ensembles and a symphony orchestra with 90 members. At its anniversary concert, this orchestra known for the rich variety of styles and genres it plays will again be offering the audience a varied programme. Even despite the use of modern instruments, the orchestra's ‘imaginary symphony' compiled using symphonic passages from the operas of Jean-Philippe Rameau and Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 are closer in their interpretations to an authentic period performance. The second half of the concert features a world première: the title for the piece that János Vajda composed for the orchestra for this occasion suggests a musical flirtation with the composer's highly successful opera Mrs Karnyó. To close the concert, the ensemble will perform a virtuoso piece by its namesake, Ernő Dohnányi.
