Navidad Nuestra

The Argentine José Cura originally trained as a conductor, before gaining world renown as a singer. On this occasion he appears in both capacities, presenting music from the land of his birth in an authentic setting. After the songs to be heard in the first half of the performance, we will hear the Misa Criolla, the best-known work by Ariel Ramírez, as well as the Christmas-themed Navidad Nuestra by the same composer. José Cura will appear as both soloist and conductor in the performance of these works, which blend the folk melodies of the Andes with contemporary musical elements, accompanied by the Paris-based Argentine ensemble Los Calchakis. For 20 years the Salva Vita Foundation has supported those with intellectual disabilities in finding their place on the open labour market and in society as a whole. Five years ago, José Cura made his initial offer to help popularize the work of the foundation. "What struck me about the foundation was that they don’t wallow in pity. Quite the opposite: they teach people with disabilities to do all they can themselves for the sake of their own well-being. As a consequence of their efforts and encouragement, disabled people come to believe that they are capable of working too, and they have proven as much."
