Featuring:
The 1924 silent film by Buster Keaton, the deadpan burlesque master of the stony face who always took extraordinary risks both as an actor and a director, will be screened before the Müpa audience on this occasion with improvised organ accompaniment. The out-of-control motorcycle chase, all kinds of other tricks and a host of literally breakneck stunts will be given a powerful musical backdrop by the brilliant Slovak organist Monika Melcová, who was trained in Košice, Vienna and Paris, but now lives in Spain. In doing so, she will vividly recreate for us not only the atmosphere of Hollywood’s golden age, but also that of “old-fashioned cinema”.
Before the screening, starting at 11.00 am, the film historian Márton Kurutz will give a brief introduction to the film and the music written for it. The discussion will be conducted in Hungarian.
