The young American organist Bryan Anderson took the grand prize at the 2023 Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition in Pennsylvania. “Brilliant” and “first class”: these are some of the superlatives critics have used to praise his playing. Employed as the music director at Saint Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, he also finds time to perform extensively as a pianist, harpsichordist and chamber musician. He is a true wizard when it comes to crafting and performing transcriptions, one for whom no technical obstacles exist: in his hands, the organ sounds like an entire orchestra. Now we can admire his magical colours in an equally polychromatic repertoire ranging from popular opera passages to film music.
