Brahms
Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90
This concert of Brahms by Concerto Budapest begins with the Tragic Overture, a darkly dramatic composition that will be followed by the final orchestral work of his oeuvre, the Double Concerto in A minor, showcasing a violinist and a cellist. Featured in the roles this time are two outstanding soloists: British violinist Anthony Marwood, returning to Hungary once again at the orchestra’s invitation, and Miklós Perényi. The Symphony No. 3, likewise dating from the 1880s, was declared by Hans (János) Richter, the Hungarian-born conductor of the work’s world premiere, to be “Brahms’s Eroica”.
