Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Produced by Müpa Budapest

As the curator of Müpa Budapest's organ concerts, László Fassang has ensured from the very beginning that the organ recitals held here are always something special, representing an exploratory spirit that opens new avenues for how organ music is both played and heard. He also represents this same mindset when himself seated at the console as a performer: an experimental artist who loves challenges and never restricts himself to a single genre. This current concert of his will be more proof of this, as he performs together with three saxophonists.

Fassang has a longstanding musical friendship with all three wind musicians, having worked artistically with Vincent Le Quang, János Ávéd and Balázs "Dongó" Szokolay for decades. In the company of each of them, the organist has created joint productions with different profiles and different stylistic features: three separate repertoires. This concert will offer a taste of these, with the programme divided between the three duos. It is improvisational music we will be hearing: improvisation is just as familiar an activity for saxophonists as it is for organists, for whom it has been (and still is) a must for centuries to both be able to and dare to improvise in front of their audience. The three areas are classical music, world music and jazz. Three different worlds: what will certainly link together the end results and make them similar, however, will be the fact that it is with equal enthusiasm and curiosity that the three pairs will start down a path of discovery of artistic collaboration that holds many surprises in store. We will also get to hear pieces that the artists composed specifically for this concert: these were inspired by Müpa Budapest's organ, the possibilities arising from the spatial placement of the soloists and the encounters between different kinds of music.
