If we mention Legendárium, A svéd király or Vadnai Bébi, it’s not certain that the name of Géza Bereményi will immediately spring to everyone’s mind, and yet these are books of the highest order. If, however, we quote the lyrics from a well-known song like “Budapest,” or list the titles of Hungarian films like The Midas Touch, The Disciples, The Bridgeman, The Great Generation or Time Stands Still, then most Hungarians will identify one of the most versatile, extraordinarily prolific and hugely popular artists on our contemporary scene, whose classic song lyrics – as performed by Tamás Cseh – have provided enjoyment for generations. Bereményi himself is an influential chronicler of the generation born at the end of the Second World War – with an extraordinarily interesting and adventurous career and family history. (It’s enough to note that he first saw the light of day as Géza Vetró, and also went under the name of Rózner for a time.) The evening therefore promises a host of fantastic stories, anecdotes and surprising revelations from a great storyteller with material for at least ten books, films and plays. There will be plenty to ask him, with the icing on the cake provided by the enchanting Evelin Tóth (vocals) and László Kövesdi during breaks in the conversation. At the very least, it’s safe to say that a rare and unrepeatable occasion lies in store for the audience.
