What does the folk song with the first line Megkondult a kecskeméti öregtemplom nagy harangja (The great bell of the old church in Kecskemét began to toll) have in common with a doctoral thesis entitled Phonology and Morphophonology in the English curriculum? The answer is that the same person has sung the former at evenings of song who defended the latter. University lecturer, professor of linguistics, brilliant Shakespearean translator and one of our most popular contemporary poets: whoever has heard Ádám Nádasdy recite poetry, sing or give educational lectures in person will not have forgotten the experience easily. A magical and captivating personality, Nádasdy is one of the most colourful and many-sided figures in Hungarian literature and scholarship. Charming and witty, he has both the ability to shock and a kind of easy, frivolous sense of humour. Although retaining proper seriousness in his teaching, scholarship, poetry and translations, he remains light years away from all doctrinarian academic dogma: among other reasons, this is why he is so popular among pupils and readers alike. An unmissable evening is promised in the company of Ferenc Darvas and actors Andrea Fullajtár and Tamás Fodor.
