Three works: three different shades of the Mozartian style. Serene sounds in a major key for the first half, and a more serious tone in a minor one for the second. The mass is particularly interesting, not only because it was left unfinished, but also because some passages reveal evidence that the composer had been studying the works of Bach and Handel. György Vashegyi, the key personality in the Hungarian world of the historically informed performance of early music, founded the choir and orchestra taking the stage this evening more than thirty years ago. They have since contributed to the development of historically informed performance in this country, with countless exciting concerts and recordings to their names. Mihály Berecz, an extraordinarily talented member of the younger generation of Hungarian pianists, has been enjoying success both at home and abroad for almost a decade now. The four vocal soloists of the evening - Andrea Csereklyei, Katalin Szutrély, Márton Komáromi and Lóránt Najbauer - have already bestowed beautiful experiences on the audience as contributors to numerous productions by the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra, both in oratorical genres and in dramatic operatic roles.
