Brahms Marathon

Traditionally, every year we present the best works from an outstanding composer as part of a marathon stream of concerts. Müpa Budapest has been organising these composer marathons, in cooperation with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, since 2008, allowing audiences to experience a fully comprehensive showcase of the amazing world of the legends of classical music history with the help of symphonic orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists. After Tchaikovsky, Bach, Beethoven, Bartók, Mozart, Schubert, Dvořák and Stravinsky, 2016 broke with tradition and showcased two composers: Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann. It almost seems a logical continuation of the previous year that the 2017 marathon will focus on the music of Johannes Brahms, who had so many ties to Schumann.

Brahms, the most classical of romantics, left behind a rich and influential oeuvre. He tried his hand at practically all genres except for opera; from vocal music through chamber music all the way to symphonies. The latter are still popular in concert halls today, and rightfully so, as is A German Requiem, the Hungarian Dances, the Variations on a theme by Haydn, his piano pieces or even the Violin Concerto in D major. His impact is felt to this day, with lighter genres also taking inspiration from his works.

On the day of the Brahms Marathon, visitors to Müpa Budapest can enjoy 11 concerts, lasting 45 minutes each, featuring the best works by the composer. The chamber pieces will be performed in the Festival Theatre, while the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall will be the venue for the orchestral pieces.

Tickets of each of the 50 minute concerts are 990 HUF, anyone purchasing three tickets is entitled to enter the fourth free of charge. So the cost of attending all 11 concerts is 8910 HUF instead of 10890 HUF.

In order to take advantage of the marathon discount online, add the tickets for all the performances you wish to see, to your cart. In your cart, you can check – depending on the number of concerts selected – to which performance(s) you are receiving your tickets as a gift, i.e. at a price of HUF 0.
Please note that the tickets for which you will not be paying after the use of the discount, must also be added to your cart.

In view of the discounted ticket prices, the discount percentage awarded for the Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of the Müpa+ Loyalty Program, cannot be used for the purchase of marathon tickets. The loyalty points awarded will of course be credited upon purchases made with the Müpa+ card at out ticket offices as well as for purchases made on our website.
