Attila Egerházi receives prestigious award

17 September 2010

Attila Egerházi, ballet director of the Hungarian Ballet Theater (Magyar Balett Színház) and artistic director of the Czech South Bohemian Ballet has received the Theatre News Award, considered to be the most prestigious honour of the Czech theatre scene.

An independent jury made up of respected and recognised personalities and artists has examined en masse all works from the complete theatrical season in the categories of prose, opera, operetta, musical, alternative theatre, dance and ballet, and after careful deliberation decided to name Attila Egerházi as this year’s winner. This recognition for the direction and choreography of The Fire Bird makes the director the first foreign artist working in the Czech Republic to be awarded the prize.
The award-winning performance can also be seen by guests of the Palace of Arts on 16 October, when members of the Hungarian Ballet Theater and the South Bohemian Ballet will be joining forces to perform the piece at the second night of the Czech Dance Palette. The night before, the audience will be treated to a brand new choreography by Egerházi called Prodigal Son at the Festival Theatre. The programme of the Czech Dance Palette 1 and 2 have been updated with a piece titled Un ballo by Jiří Kylián, one of the most significant dance artists in the world today, as well as a brand new work from one of his students, Václav Kuneš titled Neen-ya.
