Adaptation of Joanna Newsom songs

2011. January 27.

It is quite rare that a remake album is born from the pieces of a 28-year-old pop musician, but this is the case of Joanna Newsom, harpist star of the indie scene. 21 performers from six countries worked in collaboration to re-interpret songs of the American folk princess in their own styles.

Named after Bob Dylan’s album Visions of Johanna, the album entitled Versions of Joanna will feature, among others, British folk-punk star Billy Bragget, as well as violinist-vocalist Owen Pallett who regularly appears in Arcade Fire concerts. The album will be published for charity purposes: those who pay at least 10 dollars for downloading it, will support the people hit by 2010 flood in Pakistan, within the framework of the programme launched by Oxfam relief organization.
The Californian singer also won the hearts of critics last year, and her triple CD “Newsom Have One On Me” was named one of the best albums in 2010 by a number of music magazines and websites such as Pitchfork.com, TinyMixTapes and Recorder.
