According to the lunar calendar, 17 February 2026 marks the beginning of the Year of the Horse, and Müpa Budapest will once again host its Grand Chinese New Year Concert to celebrate. This concert series, successfully held worldwide since 1998, aims to bring the richness of over three millennia of Chinese musical tradition closer to audiences. In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Horse is a time for relaxation and carefree enjoyment. In this spirit, the concert will showcase the full spectrum of Chinese music, from folk melodies and opera adaptations to spectacular percussion performances and exciting fusion works, all performed on unique traditional instruments. The evening will build a bridge between East and West, offering an experience that is both exotic and familiar, harmoniously conveying the vibrant diversity of Chinese culture through the language of music.
