The World-Wide series has taken place at Müpa Budapest every year since 2013 and puts two instruments unique to Hungary, the cimbalom and tárogató, front and centre. The evening’s concerts are traditionally preceded by panel discussions led by Endre Liber. The other returning host, and performer, of the series is the cimbalom virtuoso Kálmán Balogh. During the discussion, the audience will also to get to know the evening’s guest artists: Ivan Curtean, József Csurkulya, and Bálint Tárkány-Kovács. The conversation will also explore the role of the cimbalom in different musical contexts, and whether the cimbalom repertoire will continue to expand in the 21st century.
