The Horváth Szabolcs Quartet won the jury prize at this year’s Jazz Showcase. The panel of judges was unanimous in granting them this prestigious accolade. Their stunningly varied programme, mature handling of their instruments and wonderful interplay all contributed to their success – not to mention the band leader’s sense of humour. The band formed from students of the Liszt Academy jazz faculty in 2022 with the objective of demonstrating what jazz means to its members in the 21st century by playing their own compositions alongside the evergreen hits of jazz history. Szabolcs Horváth already has several awards to his name, among them the prize for best composition at the 5th National Jazz Competition, the Creative Art Prize, the Talentum Hungaricum scholarship and the professional prize for Best Jazz Talent of the Year.
