It has become customary for the Celebration of Folk Music gala, held at Müpa Budapest since 2008, to be preceded by a dance house, and this year will be no exception. The evening, showcasing a diverse cross-section of Hungarian folk and world music scenes – featuring performances from the Sarjú Banda, the Cimbaliband with Ágnes Herczku, the revitalized Balkan Union, the Géza Fábri–Balázs “Dongó” Szokolay duo, and the new trio of Szilvia Bognár, Bori Magyar, and Ági Szalóki – will have its dance house music provided by the band led by Róbert Kerényi’s Szigony. Since its formation in 1997, Szigony Band has followed in the footsteps of old village bands by playing Moldavian and Gyimes Csángó folk music with their own distinctive musical flow. The dancing will be led by Attila “Zappa” Fülöp and Gabi Erdei.
