Trio in D minor, Op. 49
“The finest artist has no concept / that a single block of marble /does not already contain within itself...” Michelangelo’s sonnet inspired the new name and artistic creed of the ensemble originally formed as Trio Chagall in 2013. According to the Italian threesome, the hidden beauty of a work must be called forth in the course of a performance – just as a sculptor must carve out the perfect form. Trio Concept is a prizewinner in international competitions – most recently winning the Schoenfeld Competition in China – and became the resident of the storied Verbier Festival Academy not long ago. They revel at the opportunity to pass on their skills to young people on their courses, while constantly broadening their repertoire. On this occasion, they will be adding a new work by the German Clemens K. Thomas, which will be bookended by popular pieces of chamber music by Rachmaninoff and Mendelssohn.
