The dice and the stopwatch will be coming out again at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall as it hosts another round of musical ‘battle’. When we talk about instrumental duels in the Hungarian capital these days, it is no longer necessarily Bach and Marchand, or even Liszt and Thalberg, that we are thinking of, because we have our own riveting concert series right here at Müpa Budapest. This instalment pits the improvisational talents of two young organists against each other: Gabriele Agrimonti from the Chiesa di San Luigi Dei Francesi in Rome and Niklas Jahn of Dresden’s Frauenkirche. At each Organ Duel, works are created in front of the audience, often on themes they themselves have suggested, evoking the spirit of the great improvisers of the past. There to provide a glimpse behind the scenes and keep the emphasis on the joy of playing and the excitement of the creative process will be hosts László Fassang and Gergely Fazekas.
