The shaved-headed maverick of a singer was pregnant with her first child as she recorded the viscerally ingenious songs, which she was also the producer of. With I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, an album that left behind alternative rock for a gentler sound and sold millions of copies, along with her massive hit of a take on Prince's song Nothing Compares 2 U, the Irish singer found herself a real world star, though she was not to play by the rule book of the industry. An artist who is committed to, and outspoken about, social, religious and human rights issues, she has worked in countless musical styles over the decades, from reggae to Irish folk, but always sought to remain true to herself—as suggested by her latest album, I'm not Bossy, I'm the Boss, released in August 2014.
