The degree of creativity and virtuosity demonstrated by the duo of Zsolt Kaltenecker and Ádám Markó, along with their conversational skills and a certain “good kind” of brashness, would be a credit to a full orchestra. Fortunately, more and more people are finding out about this, as the fan base of the seven-year-old duo has grown in leaps and bounds. Space Junk, the album they released in April 2022, also plays an important role in this, in addition to forming the backbone of this show. Making the concert even more special is the participation of two guests: David Maxim Micic, a guitarist of Serbian origin, and the singer Reni Orsovai, not to mention the mood-enhancing visual elements.
Zsolt Kaltenecker’s musical world requires no introduction for those who have followed his path from his solo albums to the K.L.B. Trio and the 1705 trio to his 2014 joining of the progressive jazz metal ensemble Special Providence, which was co-founded by drummer Ádám Markó in 2004. To the extent that Markó has always undertaken more than a simple accompanying role in terms of intelligently supplementing and further thinking through the musical process, for Kaltenecker, rhythm, including even polymetry and polyrhythmics, are both key “toys”. He is the single person responsible for the melodic improvisations and for advancing the harmonic framework and bass progressions. The meeting of the two musicians, who are often referred to as a pair of UFOs, has brought them a series of successful concerts and tours both at home in Hungary and throughout Europe over the past seven years. It is typical of their high standards that the 13-track album Space Junk was released during the spring of 2022. The world of David Maxim Micic, who studied composition at the Berklee College of Music, is extremely close to that of the duo, as his album Who Bit the Moon, for example, clearly shows. On this evening, we will also get to hear recent material that is closer to progressive metal music, while the favourite of many viewers of the TV talent show Song Courier, Reni Orsovai, with her hit Éretlen (Immature), is not to be missed either.

This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 1 December 2022.
