Kaláka: Sándor Kányádi Gábor Becze – vocals, double bass, Dániel Gryllus – vocals, recorders, zither, panpipe, clarinet, taragot, Vilmos Gryllus – vocals, guitar, cello, jew’s harp, Balázs Radványi – vocals, guitar, mandolin, cuatro, viola Featuring: Sándor Kányádi “The Kaláka group offers verse to the listener upon an elegant musical plate that cannot be confused with anyone else’s. They don’t force their own compositions on the poem but make music that in their reading is the »original« melody of verses which since Gutenberg have been exiled to books, born to the »silence of the heart«”. These are the words of Sándor Kányádi written in 1994 when Kaláka were marking their twenty fifth anniversary. Thirteen years earlier in March 1981, they were giving a concert in Csíkszereda (Miercurea Ciuc) when they heard Kányádi reciting his verse The lost ambassador on a record. This recording made a huge impact on the Kaláka guys and they realised their repertoire was incomplete without Kányádi verses. From then on, “our Kányádi songs multiplied happily. We later got to know uncle Sándor, we travelled here and there with him, we enjoyed his stories and his verse recitals”, this can be read in the Helikon audiobook series’ Kányádi volume, with which Kaláka sent him their greetings for his 75th birthday in 2004. This volume forms the basis for the next Helikon Audiobook evening in the Palace of Arts, where the poet will also be present.
