The Tacet Jazz Quintet was formed in 2025. Its members are current or former students of the Liszt Academy. Their friendships were forged during their university years, and have evolved into fruitful professional collaborations since. The backbone of the quintet’s repertoire consists of original compositions by Edvárd Gergely that reflect his deep admiration for the classic American jazz standards, hard bop, Horace Silver, as well as Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. In their music, the structure and melodic world of hard bop is frequently paired with distinctly modern harmonic approaches, and innovative improvisation. They also often blend musical styles characteristic of several decades within a single composition. Their programme effortlessly accommodates melancholic ballads, driving hard bop pieces, and Latin numbers side by side.
