Jazz Talent Exchange - Rast Trio (NL)
11 January 2015, Sunday
3 pm - 4 pm
Atrium
Produced by Müpa Budapest

Rast Trio is a meeting of cultures from the Balkans to the Middle East, all brought together within the framework of jazz. Traditions of Hungarian, Turkish and Jewish music blend with the passion for jazz of these young musicians. Boris, Dániel and Velican all live and create in the Netherlands, one of Europe's most culturally rich countries. They rework the folk songs of their home countries, or perform their own compositions, which are of course inspired by these musical influences. Their ability to play jazz, and therefore also to improvise, makes it possible for the trio to forge their diverse cultures into a coherent whole, which is at once am embodiment of their positive outlook on humanity and its rich diversity.
As the Hungarian member of the ensemble, Dániel Mester - who already played guitar and clarinet as a child - first gained a degree in economics before taking a BA-level course at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music and participating in a master class at the jazz faculty of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He completed his studies with distinction and also received a film scoring degree from the CVA. As an instrumentalist and composer, he has worked with distinguished artists such as Metropole Orkest from the Netherlands, the Four Bones trombone quartet and the Modern Art Orchestra. He has won many awards and plaudits in Hungary, the United States, Italy and Holland as a performer and composer alike.

The concert is supported by the Netherlands Embassy.
