Pocket Pick is an electronic jazz project launched in February 2025 by jazz pianist Gergő Szabó. The band’s instrumental music blends the aesthetics of fusion jazz with elements of jungle, drum and bass, and hip-hop. The performers’ musical communication is primarily defined by the language of jazz, allowing space for improvisational and spontaneous instrumental “conversations”. The members of the ensemble are graduates of the Liszt Academy jazz department. This distinctive quartet, which has two keyboard instruments at its forefront, exclusively performs original compositions. Fans of the Hungarian jazz scene may recognise Levente Kapolcsi Szabó and Bence Baranyi from previous Jazz Showcases. Levente has played with Symbiosis 5 and Kriszta Koncz’s band, while Bence has already shown what he can do in Choose Cheese, the Panka Szczuka Quintet, and Up to the Surface.
