Now organised for the tenth year by Müpa Budapest, the Jazz Showcase is firmly established as the Central and Eastern Europe region's most important jazz talent exchange. Just as last year, the youngsters will be able to compare their skills before an invited international jury, who will judge them on their talent and innovative artistic vision. The productions deemed most original and exciting will be rewarded with further opportunities to perform thanks to collaborations between Müpa Budapest, the Hungarian Jazz Federation and a number of festivals. We also continue to value the opinions of the jazz fans in the audience: The audience prize-winner from performers on the three days will be invited back to perform at Müpa Budapest before too long.
Pianist Gyula Balogh's quartet formed in 2013 out of students from the jazz department at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. With a style defined by swing and modern bebop, their repertoire focuses on golden oldies as well as their own compositions. Gyula Balogh, who has made successful appearances in many clubs around Hungary, also occasionally invites luminaries from the jazz world to perform as guest soloists with his ensemble.
