Jazz Talent Exchange - Chris Devil Trio
10 January 2015, Saturday
3 pm - 3:45 pm
Banner Square
Produced by Müpa Budapest

The ensemble was formed by students from the jazz faculty of the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy in 2011. Their repertoire consists of their own compositions as well as classic hits that they have reworked in their own unique style. All three members participate in the work of composition, and this makes their concerts truly varied, since what characterises the three individual members is their differing, yet mutually complementary, musical senses. Their aim is experimentation: pushing the boundaries of playing without a harmonic instrument, but with the tools of traditional and fusion jazz and free-form music. The Chris Devil Trio won the jazz category in the 2013 Talentométer talent search, which opened the way for them to appear at the Újbuda Jazz Fesztival. In 2014, they were honoured with the chance to work with Mihály Borbély, and later with Viktor Tóth. Krisztián Ördög has studied music since early childhood, starting on piano and later learning the recorder with saxophonist Endre Lévay, under whose influence he developed an interest in the brass instrument. At the Béla Bartók Music High School in Budapest, he was taught by Péter Czakó and István Bundzik, and also studied under István Elek. In 2011, he was admitted to the jazz faculty of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, and often served as an assistant teacher at the Lamantin Jazz Improvisation Camp. This made him realise that alongside his career as a live musical artist, he also wanted to help enrich the lives of others as a teacher. He plays soprano, tenor and baritone saxophone, and not just in a jazz context: he also performs with funk and pop groups.
