Jazz Showcase

Virtuoso jazz trumpet player Li Xiaochuan is one of China's premier jazz exports. Over the course of his career he has played together with some of the world's greats, including Pat Metheny, Chris Potter and his former mentor, Eddie Gomez, with whom he still maintains a working relationship. After obtaining his master's degree at the University of North Texas in the United States, the trumpeter returned home to take up his current professorial position at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, while he is also a central figure in numerous music projects in China.
Topics for the workshop: Where does Chinese jazz currently stand? The US-Chinese relationship beyond politics and through the prism of music. Shanghai as China's New York. The musical segments will feature the Balázs Bágyi New Quartet. We expect the English-language workshop to primarily attract attendees from within the profession. This free, public event is being sponsored by the Hungarian Jazz Society.
