Gala Concert
5 February 2017, Sunday
7 pm - 8:45 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall
Produced by Müpa Budapest

The Jazz Showcase 10 gala concert brings together those young soloists who have already performed at Müpa Budapest's jazz talent forum over the past nine years and since seen their careers take off as they have heaped international success upon domestic acclaim. Regular performers in Berlin and Brussels, the singer-songwriter Veronika Harcsa will appear here with her permanent performing partner, the guitarist Bálint Gyémánt. Representing two polar opposites in terms of style, Juli Fábián takes cues from electronic dance music while Bálint Gájer authentically recreates the atmosphere of New Orleans in the 1920s and 30s. The Finucci twins - pianist Zoltán Balogh and guitarist Roland Balogh - already have a string of international competition victories under their belts. Saxophonist Gábor Bolla was already dazzling music critics at the age of ten. Currently living in Copenhagen, he is a popular guest at Europe's top jazz clubs.
The soloists will be accompanied by the Senior Big Band, which comprises graduates and current students of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. The youthful ensemble is led by guitarist and songwriter Attila László, a docent at the academy. In recent years, the group has performed three extraordinarily successful concerts at Müpa Budapest: at the 2012 Jazz Showcase with double bassist Miroslav Vitous, in 2014 (also as part of the Showcase) with singer Patti Austin, and in spring 2015 with Hungarian jazz divas Ágnes Lakatos, Bea Tisza, Nikoletta Szőke, Myrtill Micheller and Mónika Veres. For this occasion, they bring entirely new instrumentation, so we can expect several world premieres in addition to familiar jazz standards.
