Ákos at 40 – exclusive jubilee evening of song
Lyrical compositions in two acts
28 November 2008 Friday
3:30 pm - 6 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall

Ákos, the singer, composer, lyricist, poet, part time actor and video director turns forty this year. He has been in the profession for twenty years now, during the course of which he has released 24 Hungarian and 6 English language albums, the majority of which went gold, although he has several platinum albums to his credit as well. He has a tremendous following and amassed numerous professional prizes which underline just what a successful career he has enjoyed. Besides his work as a song writer and performer, he has also published five books of poems. In 2001, he recorded a joint radio play album in verse with Attila Kaszás, and this year published a Krúdy audio book. As a composer, he has worked with the House of Terror Museum and collaborated in the creation of the Hódmezővásárhely Memorial Centre exhibition; he has made literary translations of lyrics by Phil Collins; he wrote music for a play by Brecht; and appeared in TV films and theatre performances. He is a Hungarian rock star able to fill stadiums, but on this occasion, we will be treated to something more intimate: an elegant, direct retrospective from the last twenty years, in which the songs will be heard in entirely new arrangements. The performance style will be subtle and restrained, and the piano and theatre environment will predominate. Ákos always does his best to ensure high presentational standards for his concerts and in this, the closing performance of his autumn national tour, he promises a particularly exclusive production.
