Ágnes
Ágnes Featuring: Ágnes Vanilla Band
15 June 2008 Sunday
6 pm - 8:30 pm
Festival Theatre

With her waist length blond hair, stunning blue eyes, characteristic singing voice and intelligent hit songs, we have known Ágnes over the past decade as Vanilla. She is the only Hungarian female singer who writes the music and lyrics to her songs and employs herself as producer. Her songs have been familiar since 1997 and besides her stirring concerts, she is known for her interesting vocal style, arrangements and spiritual texts. She is a theology student in daily life and capable of creating many colours and effects with her voice, which is well demonstrated by her 2005 album Attila József in which she created a rich and complex world, ranging from polyphonic choral works, string arrangements and a cappella. Her latest album is a true “energy bomb”, best understood as intellectual modern-rock music. Ágnes’s music and texts are remarkably profound, and talk directly to us, whether it’s her sparer and more serious songs, or her dynamic pop songs. This evening we will see both sides of her musical world. She will take to the stage with a 36 member backing band, and besides the rock band we’ll see the Vanilla Strings and a chorus that Ágnes has recently founded; she will also perform songs for piano and voice with pianist Balázs Havasi. And there will be some surprise guests! We are looking forward to a uniquely exciting concert and the audience has only to soak up the immense energy that will be flooding from the stage.
