We will refund the price of tickets for programmes organised by Müpa Budapest itself: you can claim refunds for individual tickets by clicking here, and for tickets that are part of season tickets on this page.

Everyone expects Guy Ritchie to be Guy Ritchie. For every film to be like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Except in the two decades that have passed since Snatch, the world has changed. At the time, we happily cheered on on the machinations of the underworld and the demi-monde, safe in the knowledge that it was miles away from our peaceful everyday lives. Those films depicted the world of people outside the law. The Gentlemen is more elegant and unsettling: here, crime is a gentlemanly pursuit of those who are above the law.
The film received mixed reviews from critics. Perhaps the only thing they could agree on was that it was a stellar cast, featuring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant. Some felt that Guy Ritchie had nothing new to say, while others looked wistfully back to his older films. There is no doubt that the film contains all the usual subjects: The Brain, the Thug, the Chinese, the Jew, the Lord, the Russian... Yet this is not a story about lowlifes. Two big fish - Mickey and Matthew - arrive from America after graduating from prestigious universities. Their accomplished accomplices include English aristocrats and Russian oligarchs. Behind the scams, brutality and assorted intrigues, a different kind of image of Britain emerges. At times, The Gentlemen resembles a murderous satire. Or a self-mocking tale, given that the story is presented to us as a screenplay by an investigative journalist. Through which the nature of the media is also revealed. It might just make you think for a moment: in the present day, hasn't the news machine become utterly indistinguishable from a part of showbiz? It is a funny yet above all thought-provoking film. Worthy of discussion.
