Müpa Budapest HD - a selection of Müpa Budapest concert recordings
23 June 2018 Saturday
4 pm - 5:30 pm
Auditorium

As part of the Müpa HD programme series, between 15 November 2017 and 23 June 2018 the Müpa experience so well-known by many already, will be made available to an even wider audience. Our goal is to offer a taste of our unforgettable programmes from recent years by providing free of charge screenings outside of Müpa. These special recordings can be seen in various outdoor locations across the city to celebrate Müpa Budapest's 10th birthday. Now, in one sitting viewers will have the chance to enjoy two unforgettable concerts in the Müpa Budapest concert hall.

MR2 Acoustic+ from Müpa Budapest
These co-productions of the Palace of Arts and MTVA under the banners of MR2 Acoustic+ from the Palace of Arts and MR2 Symphonic+ from the Palace of Arts are now in their third year. Each concert in the latter series has featured a band picked from the local pop music scene performing a full evening of orchestral arrangements of their own music, with the collaboration of the MR Symphonics. Over the years, music-lovers have had the chance to enjoy concerts of this kind featuring a range of bands from PASO to East to Kiscsillag. On this occasion, the singers of leading local bands take centre stage to perform songs with full orchestral backing.

Conductor: Sándor Balogh
Featuring: Sena Dagadu, Bori Péterfy, Zoltán Beck, András Lovasi, Krisztián Szűcs, Marcell Likó, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

Budapest Bár
Brilliant musicians, fantastically individual singers and wonderful songs - today we can say that Budapest Bár has changed what people think about how a Gypsy band should sound. In 2014, the band released two albums entitled Húszezer éjszakás kaland and Délutáni csókok. This concert will feature a selection of tunes from these records and some old favourites too.
Budapest Bár was founded and is led by Róbert Farkas. The original intention was to breathe new life into Gypsy music of the urban café scene. Thanks to the band, long-forgotten tunes have re-entered the public consciousness and become a part of today's youth culture. Not stopping at songs which conform to the standard repertoire of a Gypsy band, they move onwards in time, pushing the boundaries of the Gypsy band sound. Anyone who has attended the band's concerts recently will know that, besides their passion for the 1920s and 1930s, they are increasingly dipping into the pool of emblematic rock and pop hits, covering songs by Tom Waits, Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Cave, LGT, David Bowie and even Depeche Mode. And let's admit it: these are not the kinds of tunes we often get to hear on the cimbalom. And let's admit it: these are not the kinds of tunes we often get to hear on the cimbalom.

Budapest Bár Band: Róbert Farkas - violin, guitar, Mihály Farkas - cimbalom, Károly Ökrös - accordion, piano, Richárd Farkas - double bass, Ferenc Kisvári - drums
Dóri Behumi, Juci Németh, András Keleti, András Lovasi, Krisztián Szűcs - singers
