Marcell Jankovics, Lajos Csákovics: Toldi (2022)
110 years of Hungarian animation
28 April 2025, Monday
7 pm - 11 pm
Auditorium
Produced by Müpa Budapest
MÜPA FILM CLUB

Featuring:

host Anna Ida Orosz

Special guests:

Éva Rubovszky, Lajos Csákovics

A boy with relentless strength who has to learn to use his special abilities, has an irresolvable clash of world views with his brother, and who stands on the side of the downtrodden and the good. Sound familiar? You could be reading the plot of a 21st century superhero film – which wouldn’t be too far from the truth. Marcell Jankovics’s final feature-length film – originally intended as a TV series – not only contains all the characteristic hallmarks of this great master of animation, but also seeks to present a valid depiction of János Arany’s heroic epic to the new generation. Immerse yourself once again in the world of heroes and knights, even if you know exactly which road takes you to Buda!
The Müpa Film Club's special guests are Éva Rubovszky, widow of Marcell Jankovics and guardian of his artistic legacy, as well as Lajos Csákovics, co-creator of the film.

In Hungarian, without subtitles

The discussions before and after the screening will be conducted in Hungarian.
